My Updated Skin Care Routine (Vegan and Cruelty Free)

29 September 2016

It's been a minute since I last posted about my skincare regime and now is the perfect time for me to introduce the new products I have been loving.

Having Polycystic Ovary Syndrome means my skin is affected by my hormonal levels and as a result, has a tendency to break out, dry out, or oil up depending what the time of the month it is.

I have adopted my new regime for the past few months now and my skin is slowly getting better. I won't pretend this is solely as a result of the products I use. I was also on a course of antibiotics recently for an ear infection and the same antibiotics I took for that are used to treat skin issues like acne. My skin definitely cleared up a little after that short course of medication but it hasn't been doing too badly since. Prior to taking the medication I found this regime worked well for me. Win-win!

As stated in this post, I have struggled to find certain products that are affordable, accessible AND work with my skin. It's been a bit of a nightmare!

However, so far so good with these products! I'm enjoying them and they're working well for me at the moment. The best part? They're affordable, vegan and cruelty free.

If I'm wearing make up I always remove it before I go to bed. Doesn't matter how tired I am, I never skip this step. And you shouldn't either. Leaving make up on too long can risk all sorts of nasty infections and encourage break outs. Ew.

To take off the heaps of eye make up I wear I use Superdrug's Gentle Vitamin E Eye Make Up Remover. This stuff is fantastic for sensitive eyes. Its lotion texture is cooling, soothing and the natural vitamin E will nourish your skin as you remove your make up.

Once my eye make up's off I set about removing my face make up. I alternate between Simple Micellar Water and Simple Oil Balancing wipes. The Micellar Water wipes are cooling, soothing and remove make up quickly, gently and effectively. If I'm suffering with a break out I like to use the Oil Balance wipes to help reduce oils on my skin and the ingredients in these wipes help to calm break outs. These are less moist than the Micellar wipes so I apply a light layer of cleanser before using these to wipe away cleanser and my face make up.

Once my make up is off I use a gentle face wash to take away any excess cleanser and leave my skin feeling fresh for bed. I use the Simple Regeneration Age Resisting Green Tea facial wash. It has a very gentle formula and leaves my skin feeling really soft.

I aim to exfoliate my skin once a week. Exfoliating can help prevent break outs by removing dead surface cells on the skin. My current favourite is the Superdrug Vitamin E Oatmeal scrub. This stuff smells really good and leaves my skin silky smooth.

Up until this point in my life, I admit, I've been far too lazy for night cream. But lately I've been getting into the habit of applying it and you know what? I actually find it really relaxing. I keep my tub of cream right on my bedside table so I can hop into bed and then apply it to my face right before I go to sleep.

This one has a mild coconut style scent, it's a really lovely scent to sniff as I drift off...zZzZz
