Goth Girl Favourites: July

19 July 2018

Time is like hair pins and socks. You never really know where it goes.

It's nearly the end of JULY? What?!

This month's brought with it quite a number of unexpected favourites and discoveries. So without hesitation, let's delve into those...
Highly pigmented, easy to apply/remove, long lasting, easy to work with, retractable with a built-in sharpener. This CYO liner in Setting Our Sights has everything I need. Literally everything. At £3.50 it won't make your wallet cry, either. Pretty freaking rad.

I picked this up because it was cheap and I was curious about this brand. They're relatively new to Boots and have quite a selection of products to choose from. This is the only one I've tried so far and I couldn't recommend it more.

Pencil liners are great for softly smudging, filling in gaps and layering with eyeshadow. But I also need a felt or liquid liner for its sharpness, bold appearance and ease of application.

I recently re-discovered and fell in love with the Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Liner all over again. Pigmented, bold, creates thick or thin lines with ease and it stays on like nothing else. At £2.99 the price is something to celebrate too.

Not one, but TWO mascaras. And they're both by NYX. Firstly, not sponsored. Secondly, why have I been using two?

If you haven't read the post I wrote about why Worth The Hype rocks so much then head over to it and find out: NYX Worth The Hype Mascara Review

As for Full Figured, I use this exclusively on my lower lashes. Fine bristles that grab every lash. Defines without looking clumpy, flaky or smudgy. Love it.

The NYX Face and Body Glitters featured in my October Favourites back in 2017 and they're pretty gorgeous. But sooo damn messy. It's far too easy to get loose glitter all over your face even with every protective measure in sight put into place.

Before the NYX glitters I'd always stuck with Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter in 'Glam Rock' as my go-to eye sparkler. They're composed of glitter suspended in gel so much less messy than traditional loose glitter. But the £16 price tag was the reason I had to stop buying them.

Ever since I'd struggled to find a replacement. Most brands didn't make gel glitters and the ones that did didn't match up for me because they lacked the high colour pay off I wanted alongside the sparkle I craved.

Then I found Lottie London's Eye Foils. I wish these came in a wider variety of shades (a copper would be amazing!) but Denied is one of the prettiest in the bunch. Holographic, silvery sparkly long lasting glitter gel that doesn't fall all over your face and your outfit. It's super buildable so you can wear it sheer for a light sparkle or, like myself, layered to create a bold, foiled look.

For some time I've been using the Laura Mercier's loose setting powder. An awesome product but unfortunately the £29 price tag is a little much for me. I set my make-up with loose powder every time I wear it so I tend to run out more easily and therefore have to replace it more frequently.

After some months of using it it has started to settle into my pores and make my skin look a bit dried out no matter how I apply it. (Sadly setting spray, using different tools to apply it and changing up what I wear with it hasn't helped.)

Deciding to move on, I picked up the Make Up Academy Ultra-Fine Loose Setting Powder. This stuff is so messy, let's just throw that out there right away.

But SUCH a good powder if you can get past the mess it makes. It leaves such a soft, silky, velvety finish and so far it hasn't sunk into my pores or made me skin look dried out. I read reviews that suggested this gives you a white cast if you're using flash photography so bear that in mind if you use it (I personally very rarely/never use flash for my photos so it doesn't bother me). It also mattifies the shiny areas of my face very nicely. I'm impressed if that's not obvious...

And now for the pièce de résistance. I ❤ Revolution, (one of Make-Up Revolution's 'sister' brands, if you will) have exploded with amazing new products lately and these are no exception.

The Mermaid, Unicorn and Dragon Heart Palettes contain 12 shades respectively in matte, satin and shimmer finishes.

I purchased the Unicorn's Heart palette initially and have owned this the longest which is why it's the most used looking! And I haven't stopped using any of these palettes since buying them. The colours are highly pigmented, vibrant and easy to work with. You can mix and match them in so many ways, plus the super lightweight packaging makes them perfect to travel with. I've taken these on several trips and they've held up fantastic!

What's been your favourite thing this month?
