'Alternative'/Goth Valentine's Day Outfit Ideas

7 February 2018

Whatever your opinion on Valentine's Day, a lot can be said for putting together a cute outfit for the special day.

Fashion's always been subjective to me and I think you can really branch out your creativity by exploring and mixing different genres. My style is a blend of 'alternative', 'gothic' and 'girly'. I love combining these in my looks.

Being a girl with my style means that I continuously find the majority of blog posts, articles, etc offering ideas for a Valentine's Day outfit to be disappointingly unhelpful. They not only offer choices far out of my taste range but also fail to include any gothic or alternative outfits at all.

So I put together some date outfit ideas of my own that hopefully you can draw inspiration from if you're an 'alternative' gal like myself.

Grabbing coffee or a burger, going bowling, walking in the park...

If you want to be practical and comfortable but still stylish, black jeggings are a smart option.
Pair with a crop top for a flirty feel.

Stay warm and comfortable (hey it's still February) with a long black cardigan over the top of the whole ensemble. A layered necklace will add texture and interest.

Let this bag be the statement of your outfit. The red rockabilly style faux leather bows (which are removeable)  and embroidered cherry skull design are a nod to a traditional Valentine's Day colour palette but add an adorable, fun touch.

Crop Top: Primark
Emilee Jeggings: New Look
Bow Loafers: SpyLoveBuy
Necklace: Ebay
Cherry Skull Bag: Banned

Jumper dresses have that cute-sexy vibe. Combine with patterned leggings and heeled lace up boots for a comfortable yet chic look.

Jumper: New Look (Unavailable, but similar on Ebay here)
 Leggings: Banned
Choker, Bracelet and Ring: Claire's Accessories

A black top and cardigan won't distract from these awesome high-waisted, faux lace-up stretchy jeans. A studded choker will add a little sexy-sass.

Top: Primark
Cardigan: Red Herring
Jeans: New Look
Boots: Faith (Not available. Find alternatives at Spy Love Buy)

Dinner at a nice restaurant, cocktails, theatre, watching a live show...

A cute dress always makes me feel extra fancy.

The adorable bats and cats print is carried elegantly by a sweetheart neckline.
Dress: Banned
Cardigan: Banned (Unavailable, but similar here)
Studded Silver Clutch: Outfit
Spike Necklace: New Look

Amp up your gothic princess vibes to the maximum with this stunner of a skirt. Multi-layered tulle with a silk lining and elasticated waist band for comfort.

Add extra fancy points with a faux fur shawl and high heels.

Top: New Look
Skirt: Ebay
Heels: Peacocks
Faux Fur Shawl: Miss Selfridge
Black Rose Ring and Bracelet: Bought years ago.

If you're not fond of brighter colours or just want something a little less 'princess-y', you can not go wrong with a black dress. The sweetheart neckline and the nipped in waist on this Quiz dress are super flattering and comfortable. What makes it especially beautiful is the intricate pattern on the fabric.

Add black bow flats as a comfortable alternative to heels.
Dress: Quiz (Unavailable, but similar on their website)
Faux Fur Shawl: Miss Selfridge
Bow Flats: New Look

Not a dress or skirt person? Jazz up plain black trousers with a lace black top and black high heels. A faux fur scarf will add sophisticated, elegant glamour.

I wore a delicate floral lace black choker as a finishing touch.

Top: H&M
Trousers: Marks And Spencers
Heels: Peacocks
Faux Fur Scarf: Primark
Bracelet: New Look
Choker: New Look
Ring: Bought years ago
