DISCLAIMER: First thing's first, I am not a doctor. If you have any concerns, see a professional GP!
Before embarking on this method I highly suggest doing your research as it is not suitable for people with certain health conditions, nor is it suitable for pregnant women. Some say it is also best to avoid doing this during menstruation due to blood flow levels being 'disrupted'. I decided to undertake the procedure anyway despite being on my period during the week I tried this. That was my decision and I felt fine throughout it all. I highly recommend consulting your doctor for advice before using this method.
Results will vary from person to person depending on your genes, your diet, your hair washing habits (keep those to a minimum for the week if you can) and the number of minutes you massage for.
IMPORTANT: It is recommended that you do not massage for longer than 4 minutes per day and for no longer than 1 week per month. This is to prevent your body becoming 'used' to the procedure and therefore making it less effective.
If you choose to use oil, avoid using too much to prevent product build up. It is best to leave the hair oil in as a treatment and avoid washing your hair too much throughout the week. Washing twice during the week should be enough.
What is the Inversion Method?
Inversion is a hair growth technique that has been around for thousands of years. It dates back to somewhere around ancient Egyptian times and involves increasing blood flow to the scalp through oil massage whilst tipping the head forward.
Do I have to use oil?
It can be done with or without oil. If using oil, ensure it is warmed before use. Not boiling, just warm. Some say using oil makes the method more effective. At the very least oil will nourish and strengthen your hair so it's not all bad ;)
What type of oil/s can I use?
Any natural oil or combination of oils is fine. Olive oil, argon oil, coconut oil, whichever oil (as long as it's safe for use on hair or skin) takes your fancy my friend.
How do I do the Inversion Method?
Simple. Tip your head forward and massage the warmed oil into your scalp (it is important that warm oil is massaged into the scalp and that the scalp is massaged directly in order to increase blood flow and therefore, hair growth) for 3-4 minutes. You can do this standing or sitting on a chair/end of a bed, etc. Avoid leaning too far forward. I recommend sitting on a chair or bed as it helps to avoid too much dizziness and keeps your body stable throughout the process. When sitting or standing back up remember to go slowly to avoid feeling too dizzy.
My Experience
Recently I chopped off my long hair. My hair was once almost waist length and I got it cut to just above my shoulders. So that was a good 7/8 inches.

I liked my new hair length when I got it done. It was/is a refreshing change. But I thought this would be an ideal time to test this method as I now wish to grow my hair a few inches longer. I'm not going to keep my hair as short as it is now. I want to grow it a few inches longer because I feel I need the extra length due to the texture and thickness of my hair. I am not sure if I will ever grow it super long again but for now, I simply want to add a few inches to the length of my hair.
After doing some research I found this method and decided to see how well it worked and record my results.
I chose to do this with just a little hair oil (I used argon oil) because I am not a fan of using lots of product on my hair, least of all using lots of oil. I warmed the oil in my hands prior to application and massaged it into my hair with my head tipped forward for four minutes each day.
I sat down on the edge of my bed to steady myself and enable me to massage adequately.
I simply repeated this every day for 1 week. And I have documented my results below.
I measured my hair (which has no layers and is the same length all around my head) and I began at 13 inches from scalp to tip.
The Results
I admit I was highly sceptical about this method despite its ancient origins and the fact that I'd seen so many people praising it and claiming success with it.
But I did see results and I'm absolutely astonished.
Yes, my hair does naturally grow quickly. However it'd take a month for my hair to grow an inch usually, not one week! And my hair is now just a smidge under 14 inches. (Literally 'one line' away from 14 inches on the measuring tape.)
I was highly surprised when I measured and I kept measuring again and again to make sure. I didn't achieve one full inch but even almost 1 inch in just a week was incredible to me. I am so thrilled with the results! I definitely want to try this method again next month to see if I can gain another inch of growth.
All in all I do recommend this method. It isn't difficult, it takes only a few minutes per day for just a week and the results are great! Obviously it still depends on your genes and your general lifestyle as to what results you will see but for me personally, I saw results I was very happy with!
So here's the end results in photos!
Of course the difference is slight, it was just under 1 inch. But it was definitely more than I expected and I am highly pleased regardless!
Apologies for how bleary eyed and derpy I look in this 'Before' photo. I was extremely tired at the time...yeah, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it LOL...
The results photos!
My head is tipped very slightly forward in this photo but the results are the same and can be seen in the follow-up photo where my posture is straight :)
